Tennis sensation and world number two Iga Swiatek defeated Emma Navarro by 6-1, 6-2 in the quarterfinal of the 2025 Australian Open at Rod Laver Arena of Melbourne Park on January 22, Wednesday. The Polish star has successfully made it to the semi-finals, where she will be facing Madison Keys, who has toppled Elina Svitolina in another blockbuster quarter-final clash. The 23-year-old tennis star has a great start to the game, having won the first set comfortably. She continued her beast form and marked straight sets to win before stepping into the semi-finals.

However, a clear double bounce in the quarterfinal clash between Swiatek and Navarro has reignited the debate over how tennis is using video technology. Navarro suffered a loss at a point when she was trailing 6-1 despite the ball bouncing twice in front of stretching Swiatek, who went on to win both sets. The Australian Open has introduced a video review system this time, but it can be used in a point-ending call or when the players stop.

“Honestly, I didn't see the replay after this point because after the point I didn't look up for the screens because I wanted to stay focused. I wasn't sure if it was a double bounce or if I hit it with my frame. I don't know. Sometimes you don't really look when you hit the ball. So I wasn't sure. I thought this was like the umpire's kind of job to call it, you know. I was also waiting for the VAR, but I didn't see it, so I just kind of proceed. I already focused on the next one," Iga Swiatek said after the win.
