The start of the clay season is supposed to be a time when players get the chance to prove themselves. There have already been several players that have withdrawn from the Monte Carlo Masters. The other tournament to look forward to in this clay season is the Barcelona Open. This tournament has also promised to feature some big players in the mix in the form of Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas and Casper Ruud.

The one player who we were promised to see in this clay season and missed out on the Monte Carlo Masters was Carlos Alcaraz. Just like Nadal the 20-year-old Spaniard has also got a great record on clay. This was another opportunity for the current world number 3 and 2-time grand slam winner to show his talent on clay this season. Alcaraz has also won the last two tournaments at this venue as well. It is safe to say that the upcoming talent would have been one of the favourites to win this tournament.

Unfortunately for the fans, they will have to wait for Alcaraz to announce himself on the stage as he has withdrawn from the Barcelona Open as well. It turns out that the injury he sustained in Monte Carlo has not healed completely. This is a sad couple of months for the player who has been one of the top players in the game so far. This also means that Alcaraz will not be defending his Barcelona crown which he has held for the last two seasons.

This would not only have been a moment where Alcaraz would have made a comeback on clay but also a great homecoming after his Monte Carlo withdrawal. The fans will be hoping for Alcaraz to make a comeback in the upcoming French Open. Alcaraz is one of the iconic players who was set to take the place of the world number 1 Novak Djokovic and it will be great to see him get back to fitness and completely heal from what is a devastating injury.
