The Barcelona Open will be another tournament that people will look forward to in this clay season. This will give me the chance to become a player to comeback on one of the toughest surfaces in tennis. The clay season will be moving to Spain which is the home of some of the biggest clay players the world of tennis has ever seen. There has been a long history in this tournament which has featured some of the best tennis matches we have ever seen.

Due to this long history, we should take a look at the greatest players in this tournament. We will be talking about the players with the most Barcelona Open titles right now. The current tournament’s qualification has already begun and now we will be looking into the past champions in the tournament so far. This will take us right back to the people who have had some of their glory days in one of the most popular Spanish cities in the world.

5. Carlos Alcaraz/ Bjorn Borg- 2

We cannot leave out these two players in this list at all. Bjorn Borg is one of the iconic gifted and most technical players and the current superstar Carlos Alcaraz, has made it look easy to play on clay. Bjorn Borg was an absolute legend in the 70’s and showed everyone that he could be equally dominating on clay as well. The 1975 and 1977 Barcelona Open were perfect examples. Carlos Alcaraz is the most recent dominating clay performer who has also won back-to-back titles in 2022 and 2023 establishing himself as the world-class superstar of the modern era.

4. Manuel Orantes- 3

Manuel Orantes might not be the luckiest player when it comes to grand slams, but he has still been a top player especially when it comes to clay tournaments. Orantes has won 3 Barcelona titles in 1969, 1971 and 1976. Orantes showed his dominance in this tournament showing his world-class performances on the big stage. He was still one of the top contenders in Tennis and this tournament proved it to everyone who came up against him.

3. Matts Wilander- 3

After Bjorn Borg, it was Mats Wilander who was waving the Swedish flag with some dominant tennis in the 80’s. Wilander has not only won 8 grand slams during his career but was a master in the clay season. Wilander is one of the few players who went on to win 3 consecutive Barcelona Open titles in 1982, 1983 and 1984. This made him one of the most dominant players to watch out for and was known as the next Bjorn Borg in Tennis with his similar style of game.

2. Roy Emerson- 3

One of the biggest legends in Tennis is none other than Australian Tennis player Roy Emerson. Emerson was an absolute master in the ’60s where he went on to win big titles through his season. Emerson was not only a great serve and volley player who could dominate the game on all three surfaces, but he was also one of the few who was equally successful in both doubles and singles competitions. Emerson went on to win the Barcelona Open in 1961, 1963 and 1964. This was the Emerson era where there was hardly any player who could defeat him.

Similar to the other ATP tournaments Nadal also enjoyed a 5-year winning streak in the Barcelona Open which went on from 2005 to 2009.
