Carlos Alcaraz pulled off a Roger Federer against Juncheng Shang with a terrific backward-facing shot in the Round of 64 match at the Shanghai Masters 2024. The star player moved backward more than half the court as he was able to access the impact of the ball, sent it back to the opponent's court, and ended up claiming the point after having a long rally.

Just a few minutes into the game, in the second game of the first set, Carlos Alcaraz served to the local. The Southpaw returned well with a backhand. As Carlos targeted the opposite end, Chang did the same as well. Carlos targeted the other end but the local got in time and replied with a running shot.

Carlos had come a bit too forward anticipating a drop shot. Hence, he had to cover a lot of distance backward in a little time frame. And the Spaniard did exactly that stunning the crowd in the process. The Paris Olympics Silver medalist successfully returned the ball to the local star.

The rally did not stop there. It continued for several shots and it seemed like neither was willing to give away a point. It involved 16 points and the star player had the last laugh. Juncheng Shang hit the ball outside the court to end the rally. The fans cheered for Carlos louder and gave their acknowledgment.

It was one such match where the eventual score did not tell the entire story. Both Alcaraz and Shang put on a good performance. The 3rd seeded star proved to be a bit too good. He won the Shanghai Masters match 6-2, 6-2 in straight sets, but it was not as simple as it seemed.

The crowd was brilliant for the match supporting both the hometown boy and the 4-time Grand Slam Champion. Carlos was the better of the two on the given day. In the Round of 32, he will be up against Y Wu. Alcaraz is one of the favorites to win the tournament.
