Jessica Pegula had an incredible run at the recently concluded US Open Tennis Championships, where she finished runner-up. Competing in her maiden Grand Slam final, the American lost to World No. 2 Aryna Sabalenka 5-7, 5-7 at Flushing Meadows.

Her remarkable campaign saw her climb to third in the WTA ranking. Pegula received a lot of praise from all quarters, however, it was former World No. 5 Eugenie Bouchard's post on social media that caught the attention. The Canadian tennis beauty actually meant to congratulate Pegula on her achievement, but fans took it the wrong way, leading to cyber attacks.

"Money can't buy a U.S. Open final lol” - this was Bouchard’s response to a post on  X about Pegula's defeat to Sabalenka. For the unversed, Pegula is the daughter of billionaire Terrence Pegula, who owns a sports entertainment company, as well as the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Buffalo Bills in the National Football League (NFL).

Many fans thought that Bouchard was jealous of Pegula's wealthy background. Meanwhile, the 30-year-old recently cleared the air on her take on Pegula’s incredible campaign in the final Grand Slam event of the year.

Frustrated Bouchard vowed to leave X

Bouchard, who has barely played in recent times, said that her words were taken out of context and once again praised the American for her hard-earned achievement.

"Literally how? I’m complimenting her, she achieved a GS finals bc of hard work, dedication, etc. not bc of money. You can’t buy your way thru the us open draw. She’s amazing. Leaving this app," Bouchard wrote on X.

Bouchard, who rose to fame early by reaching the Wimbledon final and rising to world number five at the age of 20, has never faced Pegula on the court. She currently sits outside the top 500 in the world. She is best known as a sports model and influencer.
