Tennis star Iga Swiatek battled past a gritty Katerina Siniakova in the first round of the Australian Open 2025 on January 13. The Polish star defeated Siniakova in straight sets on Day 2 of the showpiece event to launch her quest for the sixth Grand Slam title of her illustrious career at Melbourne Park.
The Polish star, recently served a one-month doping ban suspension back in 2024 and lost her top ranking to the defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, beat the 46th-ranked star Katerina at the John Cain Arena. The 23-year-old star player is now set to face Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova in the second round of the game.

“What were you listening to in your headphones when you walked on court today? Meditation? Rock & roll?”
Iga: “No, no. I shouldn’t mediate before the match. I would be too soft… too nice 😂

Meanwhile, it's worth mentioning that Iga Swiatek has never shone at Melbourne Park. The 23-year-old star player progressed beyond the fourth round at the Australian Open in 2022 when she was upset by Danielle Collins in the semifinal thriller. The Poland-born star began her 2025 campaign with four single wins out of the five in the United Cup, which is her first since it was revealed as she had served a doping ban.

“For sure, it wasn’t an easy first round. So I’m happy that I’m through. Katerina, I know her from playing doubles against her that she’s not an easy opponent. She was playing really well, and I just needed to be more proactive. I did that in the second set, so I’m happy,” Iga said after the win.
