Aryna Sabalenka delighted for her Friend Paulo Badosa's return to form

Aryna Sabalenka recently shared her joy at her friend Paula Badosa's successful return to form following a prolonged struggle with injuries. Both players are currently competing in the 2024 US Open women's singles event.

In the second round on Wednesday, August 28, No. 2 seed Sabalenka defeated Italy's Lucia Bronzetti 6-3, 6-1. She demonstrated a strong performance by breaking Bronzetti's serve five times and delivering five aces.

Meanwhile, 26th seed Badosa also secured her spot in the third round with a straight-set victory over home-favorite Taylor Townsend at Louis Armstrong Stadium. She clinched the win with a score of 6-3, 7-5, capitalizing on five break point opportunities while being broken twice by the American.

Sabalenka hurled praises for her Friend Paula Badosa

World Number 2, Sabalenka, acknowledged her friend's efforts. She also reflected on Badosa's continued struggle with her form following her injury at the Italian Open, last year.

Sabalenka was super happy to see her friend getting back to her former self. Sabalenka praised Badosa for being a hard worker and a true fighter on the court. Sabalenka also praised Badosa for being a great human being.

Sabalenka on her bond with Paula Badosa 

In the press interview at the Flushing on Wednesday, when a reporter asked Sabalenka about the kind of relationship she shares with Paula Badosa, she replied:

"Oh wow, how do I describe that? It's just an amazing thing, you know to find someone so similar to you and have the same kind of mindset, the same thoughts on different topics and just be able to walk with someone and have fun with someone." 

"Just to have a friend, that's awesome. Especially when you are opponent on court and to be able to manage this stuff, that's really important. How would I describe, just an amazing thing, you know? So much fun," Sabalenka added.

Former world number 2, Paula Badosa, slipped to 140th rank in WTA singles, in May this year. However, with her impressive run in the Cincinnati Open and Citi Open, Badosa climbed up to the top 30 rankings.
