Argentina has successfully secured a place in the eight-team Davis Cup Final with a hard-fought 3-0 victory over Finland on Saturday. Argentina's Davis Cup team qualified for the final 8 for the first time since 2019.. Despite an initially challenging start with an opening loss to 2022 champion Canada, Argentina demonstrated resilience in Group D in Manchester. They achieved victory over the host team, Britain, on Friday and overcame Finland, a formidable semifinalist from last year, despite the absence of their best player.

Argentina makes a comeback after initial setbacks

In the Group D matches in Manchester, following an initial defeat to the 2022 champion Canada, the team secured a victory against host Britain and triumphed over a resilient Finland, who reached the semifinals last year but was missing its top player.

Tomas Martin Etcheverry defeated the 703rd-ranked Eero Vasa with a score of 7-6 (5), 6-3, while Francisco Cerundolo overcame Otto Virtanen with a score of 6-7 (4), 6-1, 6-0. The pivotal doubles match was clinched by Maximo Gonzalez and Andres Molteni against Patrick Kaukovalta and Harri Heliovaara, with a score of 6-7 (3), 6-4, 6-3, securing the victory for Argentina.

What's next for the teams ?

Argentina's victory now forces Britain to beat Canada 3-0 if they have to qualify for the next stage. In another Davis Cup Tie, Brazil defeated Belgium 2-1 following the defeats against Italy and the Netherlands. Team United States of America managed to get seeded for the finals following their 2-1 victory over Germany. They also managed to top Group C by remaining undefeated in the tournament so far.

India lost their World Group I tie to Sweden 4-0 at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm. India will now feature in World Group I playoff stage next year.
