This season did not start in the best possible way for Andrey Rublev who is currently one of the top 10 ranked players in ATP. The Russian might not be the guy who has won grand slams in his career so far but has still gone on to be one of the best players in the ATP singles. However not only did he fail in another grand slam quarter-final, but also went on a losing streak this clay season as well. There was a need for a turnaround in this season for the 26-year-old Russian athlete.
Andrey Rublev's losing streak started at the Indian Wells Masters itself till the Barcelona Open where he faced four consecutive losses. However, he has made a significant turnaround in the ongoing Madrid Open where he not only ended his losing streak but also went on to be the first semi-finalist in the tournament. Rublev also went on to beat defending champion Carlos Alcaraz which was his biggest achievement this season so far.
Andrey conquers the top 10
With a win over Carlos Alcaraz, Rublev has achieved a very rare feat which is only a dream for upcoming players like him. With this win in the quarter-finals, he has now got victories over every current top 10 ATP player of all time. This shows the talent of Rublev who also has a win over the legendary Novak Djokovic as well which he achieved in Belgrade just two years ago. This is something that will establish him as one of the best tennis players right now in the ATP season.
There might still be a grand slam title that is eluding him, but there is no doubt that time will come soon as well since we know that Rublev is much more than just a dark horse in the game. He will now go on to play the semi-final of the tournament hoping to get his hands on his first ATP title. He will face either Taylor Fritz or Francisco Cerundolo in the semi-finals and will look to dominate them which he has been doing throughout this tournament.
