Tennis legend Carlos Alcaraz defeated Jan-Lennard Struff in round 16 of the ongoing Mutua Madrid Open 2024 and reached the quarterfinals of the marquee event. Speaking about the game here, Carlos Alcaraz was magnificent in the first set; however, 34-year-old Struff made a remarkable comeback in the second set to level up the game. Notably, the 20-year-old star again showed his classy form in the next set, winning round number 4 and advancing to the quarterfinals of the game to defend his men's single title.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz has recently opened up about the tactics and skills he used to defeat the 34-year-old legend in the fourth round. The 20-year-old accepted that it was tough for him to beat him, but his certain match points helped him win the game. In addition, the young player also revealed how he handled his emotions after losing the second set of the game.

"This match reminded me a lot of last year's," Alcaraz said on court after the match. "It was pretty difficult from the first point until the last one. It was a great fight. It was difficult for me to deal with my emotions, to handle certain moments in the match. Serving for the match was really difficult for me, being 40-0 up, but I'm really happy that at the end, it didn't affect me or my game or my mentality. I kept fighting, and that's all that matters so I'm really happy to get the win at the end."

However, Jannik Sinner beat Karen Khachanov by 5-7, 6-3, 6-3 and made his way to the quarterfinals of the game after prevailing over him in round 16. The great plater lost the first set, but his great comeback helped him get a place in the quarterfinals for the first time. The 22-year-old has also talked about how tough it was for him to beat the top player, Khachanov, in round 4.

"I was struggling when I was break points down in the early stages of the third set. I went through them, serving really well. Then after I felt a little bit better so I’m really happy and let’s see what’s coming in the next round," said Sinner after the win.
