The Madrid Open is down to the last 8 in the ATP singles and we are very close to getting our winner for the 2024 season. These were the moments where the players are now about to put on a fight to make it to the final four in the competition. There are many great finals to witness in this match and the fans will be supporting their favourites to win and get the 1000 points to help them rise up in the rankings.
The time had also come for the first top 10 matchup of the tournament as Carlos Alcaraz was taking on Russian Andrey Rublev. While Alcaraz was making his comeback after injury, Rublev had faced a lot of disappointment as he faced four defeats in a row going into this game. While Alcaraz is still looking good, Rublev has also come up in this tournament with some great tennis.
Rublev disrupts Alcaraz’s title defence
Though this looks to be a tough competition Carlos Alcaraz was still running favourite as this was also his home turf. The first set was a prime example of Alcaraz at his best as he went onto win the first set winning 6 games to 4. However, the second set saw the Russian get the better of the 2-time Grand slam winner as Rublev dominated Alcaraz winning 6 games to 3. The last and final set was up for grabs for both players and it was Rublev who was victorious and ruined Alcaraz’s title defence and made it to the semi finals.
This was the moment Rublev needed to get his season underway and what could have been better than beating one of the best in the world right now. Rublev is now the first semi finalist in the tournament and will have his eye on the Madrid crown. This has been his best tournament in the season and he will be wanting to make a statement by winning a ATP 1000 tournament. We hope he continues to play the dominating tennis we saw in this Quarter final match.
