Alcaraz and Sinner feel the need for a change in Davis Cup format (X)
Overview
- Carlos Alcaraz felt the prestige of the Davis Cup can be increased if it's played once in two or three years, than every year
- He felt doing so would lead to the players being more committed towards it and personally wished to win it at least once
- Jannik Sinner claimed the new format of the tournament to be challenging and felt something has been off in the competition
Carlos Alcaraz felt the prestige of the Davis Cup can be increased if it's played once in two or three years, than every year. The ATP No.1 star felt doing so would lead to the players being more committed towards it and personally wished to win it at least once.
"They've got to do something (with) this event, because I think playing every year, I mean — it is not as good as it might be if you're playing every two or three years," Alcaraz said, as quoted by AFP. He felt that reducing the frequency of the competition could help it become one of the prestigious tournaments in Tennis.

"I think if the tournament is played, like, every two years or every three years, the players, the commitment of the players, it's going to be even more because it's unique, it's different. You're not able to play every year. I really want to win the Davis Cup one day, because for me, it's a really important, important tournament," Alcaraz added.
"I felt like something a bit died in this competition," - Jannik Sinner on Davis Cup
On the other hand, Jannik Sinner felt that he has never been able to witness the real Davis Cup. "I never, unfortunately, played the Davis Cup, the real' Davis Cup, where it's ... playing in Argentina or in Brazil, where you have the whole stadium ... for the other team. I think this is Davis Cup, you know?" Sinner said.

He added that the new format has been challenging for him and something has been missing in it. "The new format has been a bit challenging for us in France, I think, especially for me, because I felt like something a bit died in this competition," Sinner added.
