Lleyton Hewitt came out of retirement and teamed up with his son, Cruz Hewitt, at the NSW Open 2025 in Sydney. The father and son duo had a great game on the former's return, as they won 6-1, 6-0. It was Lleyton's first game in five years, who had retired from Professional Tennis in 2020, at the age of 39.
Hewitt reduced his workload in 2016 when he retired as a singles player and concentrated only on his doubles career till the pandemic. Cruz, Lleyton's son, made his debut in 2023, at the age of 16. He got a chance to be his father's teammate.

The duo was up against the fellow Australians, Hayden Jones and Pavle Marinkov, in the ATO Challengers Tournament. Their team turned out to be good in the match, as they dropped a solitary game in two sets. Hewitt's appearance since his retirement has been as the Australian Team's captain in the Davis Cup.

Speaking about what it means for him to represent Australia in Tennis, Lleyton had said that it has been one of the greatest honors for him in his life. "Wearing the green and gold and honouring the greats who came before me has always been one of the greatest honours of my life," Hewitt said.

Under Lleyton's captaincy, Australia performed well in the Davis Cup, as they made it to the final in back-to-back seasons in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Cruz also took part in the singles competiton in the tournamet, but went down to Omar Jasika, the former US Open junior champion, in the second round.
