Since then Ambrose has become a huge member of the AEW locker room and is seen as one of their top stars. The 39-year-old shot to fame during his time with WWE where he was part of the famous faction called The Shield. Making their debut in late 212, Ambrose along with Seth Rollins and Roman reigns wreaked havoc and became huge names. Both, Rollins and Reigns have mentioned Ambrose' name in various promos in recent times leading fans to believe that a return is possible.

With Rollins and Reigns being at the top of their game, WWE fans are wondering if the third member of the Shield will ever return? Sadly, those plans doesn’t seem to be on the horizon. Ambrose is employed with AEW for the next two years. The former WWE Champion has also stated his displeasure of working for the Stamford based promotion.

Ambrose’s only chance of ever coming back to WWE is if the wrestler is fired by Tony Khan or at the end of his contract in 24 months. Even that seems unlikely considering that Ambrose had quit WWE on the back of creative differences with Vince McMahon post his heel turn.

Why did Dean Ambrose quit WWE?

During his appearance on the Talk is Jericho podcast, Ambrose recalled the frustration he faced with the former WWE Chairman’s creative direction. Former WWE champion as quoted by Sportskeeda recalled, “I remember leaning on a road case and just feeling actual exhaustion. Just like emotional, physical, mental exhaustion. Not so much because of that day, but because of six of years of this.”

Dean Ambrose also said, “Six years of having to go into this man's office, this old man, and trying to explain to him why wearing a surgical mask is a stupid idea, why carrying a little red wagon to the ring is a stupid idea, why maiming a mannequin in the ring is a stupid idea. I was done.”
