Yusuf Dikec is a prominent figure in the world of shooting sports, who is currently representing Turkey in the Paris Olympics. At 51 years old, Dikec recently made headlines, not just for his impressive performance but also for his unconventional style on the shooting range.
Competing in the 10-meter air pistol mixed team event, Dikec and his partner Sevval Ilayda Tarhan secured a silver medal. However, Dikec's relaxed demeanour during the competition, captured in a viral image, starkly contrasted with the typical focus and precision associated with Olympic shooters.
Unlike his peers, who often rely on specialized equipment such as ear protection and precision glasses, Dikec was seen with a casual approach. With one hand casually tucked in his pocket, devoid of the usual shooting gear made to the headlines.
This approach, paired with his exceptional skill, left a lasting impression on spectators. It prompted a lot of social media reactions, including a notable acknowledgement from billionaire Elon Musk. Born with a passion for the sport, Yusuf Dikec has built an illustrious career.
Yusuf Dikec is a five-time Olympian, representing Turkey in the Games of 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, and 2024. His journey in shooting began long before his Olympic appearances, with his educational background laying a strong foundation for his success.
Dikec studied at Gazi University School of Physical Training and Education in Ankara and later earned a Master's degree in Coaching from Selcuk University in Konya. This academic pursuit, combined with his fluency in English and Turkish, has contributed to his well-rounded persona as an athlete and a coach.
Dikec's achievements extend beyond the Olympics. At the 2014 World Championships, he claimed double world champion titles in the 25-meter standard pistol and the 25-meter centre fire pistol events, along with a silver medal in the 10-meter air pistol. His dominance in the European Championships is equally impressive, with seven titles to his name, including a recent victory in the air pistol trio event in 2024 in Gyor.
