WATCH: Egyptian wrestler Mohamed Elsayed gets arrested for alleged sexual assault at Paris Olympics 2024

Mohamed Elsayed has been arrested for an alleged sexual attack during the Paris Olympics 2024. The Egyptian wrestler was in a local cafe where he groped a customer's buttocks as per the prosecutors. It is being claimed that an inquiry has been set to deal with the incident. The Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) claimed that there would be a disciplinary hearing.

EOC added that there could be big punishments for the wrestler if proven guilty like a lifetime ban from competition. In the statement released regarding the case, Elsayed was released by the team after his bout ended. He was allowed to watch the rest of the matches of his event. However, the Egypt star switched off his phone and did not return to the mission headquarters.

Mohamed was a rising star in Wrestling. He is regarded as one of the best wrestlers in his weight category of 67 kg. In the Greco-German category, he made a name for himself by winning the Bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. Additionally, he has also won numerous medals in other events like the Military World Games, the African Games, and the African Wrestling Championships.

He is also regarded as one of the wrestlers with a good spirit of sportsmanship. In one of the interviews, he claimed that respect comes above anything for an individual. While his record as a wrestler and as an individual has been great, the allegations about his actions have raised concerns. There has already been a negative impression on him and the fans are rushing to different opinions before the verdict on the case.

At the Paris Olympics 2024, Elsayed lost to Azerbaijan's Hasrat Javarov in the 67 kg category. Hasrat went on to win the Bronze medal in the event. Some of the reports claimed that Mohamed was drunk when the incident happened. Egypt has another athlete with the same name in their contingent who won the Bronze medal in epee fencing.
