Xabi Alonso set to leave Bayer Leverkusen in the next season: Reports

Xabi Alonso, the manager of Bayer Leverkusen, is reportedly going to leave his German club at the end of the current season, despite his contract extending until 2026. As per Eurosport, there is significant interest in Alonso from both Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

While Real Madrid currently has Carlo Ancelotti under contract for another 18 months, the possibility remains that Alonso may take the reins at the club next season. Additionally, if Bayern Munich does not see the desired performance from Vincent Kompany, there could be an opportunity for Alonso to join their ranks as well.

The report highlights that Alonso, who turned down the opportunity to take over from Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, has communicated to several Leverkusen players his intention to leave at the season's conclusion. His decision may largely depend on the future of Ancelotti at Madrid.

Given that the team has not been performing at the same level as last season, there is a possibility that the Italian could be considering a move in 2025. Meanwhile, Alonso may need to exercise some patience in his aspirations to lead Los Blancos, as the situation continues to evolve.

Alonso guided Leverkusen to historic glory in the 2023/24 season, achieving a Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double, with the only loss coming in the Europa League final against Atalanta. However, in the current campaign, the team is placed fourth in the league, trailing Bayern by nine points after 10 matches. Looking ahead, Leverkusen will be returning to Bundesliga action on November 23 at home against Heidenheim, followed by an important Champions League match against Red Bull Salzburg just three days later.
