The referee waved away any demand for a penalty as soon as Jonas Hofmann went down inside the Brest box. However, a protracted VAR review was in progress, and it appeared like Bayer Leverkusen was going to be awarded a penalty in stoppage time. To their dismay, though, the VAR upheld the referee's initial ruling.
In real time, it appeared to be a straight-forward penalty since Jonas Hofmann was the first to get to the ball, but the Brest player's terrible challenge sent him down. To everyone's amazement, the verdict made by the referee and VAR was final.

Earlier in the game, some nice football was played along the left flank by Bayer Leverkusen. Florian Wirtz, who was first muscled off the ball, is played into the middle. However, it fell to Hofmann, who then fed Wirtz, who coolly finished in the lower left corner.
On the box's edge, a looping cross was falling from the left. When Lees-Melou got there, he hit it first on the volley and hammered an incredible shot towards the bottom corner. As they maintained their successful run in the UEFA Champions League, Brest managed to level things up before halftime.
How did the teams fare in the second half?
After halftime, having a point to prove, Brest emerged, dominating Leverkusen at first. They returned to the game after Alonso's three substitutions, but the intensity increased and tackles began to fly in. Baldé gave Brest the best opportunity of the half, and both sides had wild moments across both penalty boxes, but neither team was able to break the tie.
After receiving his second yellow card, Alonso was sent to the stands because he felt his team should have been given a penalty for a challenge on Hofmann. After a fierce match that ended all square, neither team has still lost in the UEFA Champions League. They would be hoping to continue this stunning unbeaten run in the next round of matches
