Wolverhampton Wanderers sacks their Manager
Wolves have decided to part ways with manager Gary O'Neil following the 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town on Saturday. Although his departure has not been officially announced by the club yet, it follows closely behind comments from Wolves chairman Jeff Shi, who expressed support for O'Neil after the team's previous defeat at West Ham.
Saturday's loss marked the club's 11th defeat in the Premier League this season, with only two victories to their name. This alarming record places the Black Country club at the 19th spot, a full four points adrift from avoiding relegation. O'Neil took over from Julen Lopetegui just four days before the start of the 2023-24 season, resulting in a dismal finish of 14th for Wolves.
The Possible Reason for Sacking the Manager
Wolves started the season on a poor note, experiencing seven losses and one draw in their first eight league matches. However, they showed signs of improvement by going unbeaten in four games, which included back-to-back victories against Southampton and Fulham.
While they faced setbacks with losses to Bournemouth and a tough defeat against Everton, there were still opportunities for the coach as they looked to bounce back but they again faced defeats to the Hammers and Ipswich.
Furthermore, the Molineux club faces many off-field issues. Mario Lemina has been stripped of the captaincy following a confrontation with West Ham United's Jarrod Bowen on Monday.
In a troubling display of discipline, Rayan Ait-Nouri received a second yellow card and was sent off in the tunnel after an altercation with Wes Burns. Additionally, Cunha engaged in a physical confrontation with Ipswich's official forcefully pushing one individual and snatching their specs.
