The Eternal Rivals are not yet done

The little boy from Rosario and Portugal's icon are widely considered two of the best players to ever grace the sport. The never-ending debate as to who is the better player and was partially subdued when Messi lifted the World Cup in 2022. Their regular battles, which lasted over a decade while playing for Spanish Club giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, as well as their stand-offs at Champions League knockout games, add to the legacy of their rivalry.

Their competition extends beyond the football pitch to social media and their respective net worth, making them fierce rivals in every aspect. Since 2008, Ronaldo and Messi have dominated the Ballond'Or, with the exception of Luka Modric and Karim Benzema's wins in 2018 and 2022.

Ronaldo made headlines last month by scoring his 900th goal for club and country, cementing his position as the all-time highest goal-scorer. In 2024, Lionel Messi's success continues to soar. Following Argentina's victory in the Copa America, he secured his 46th career trophy by scoring twice in Inter Miami's 3-2 win over the Columbus Crew. This further solidifies Messi's place in history as the most decorated player of all time.
