Liverpool said that despite the unfavourable weather on Merseyside, "every effort" is being made to play their home match against Manchester United on Sunday. A decision is anticipated shortly after noon. Due to access concerns, the Safety Advisory Group of Liverpool City Council convened on Sunday morning to decide whether the Premier League game should go after snow fell over Merseyside and the northwest overnight.
To improve the weather and ensure that the match, one of the most important in English football, starts at 4.30 p.m., the team will meet again at noon. According to reports, the city council's Safety Advisory Group was scheduled to convene early on Sunday to decide whether or not the game could go safely.

Supporter welfare, or whether it is safe for people attending the match to go there, would be the basis for such a decision. Air travel in the UK has been severely hampered by the closure of runways at the main airports in Manchester and Liverpool on Sunday. Several train lines, notably those that link the Liverpool region to the rest of the nation, also operate interrupted services. Merseyrail stated that a tree limb had fallen into one of its lines, causing service disruptions.
Manchester United fight for relegation
Bad weather also hampered the Reds' match against Everton earlier this season, which has already caused many games in the lower levels of English football to be postponed. No date has been set for the final Merseyside derby at Goodison Park, although it is expected to take place next month. If Sunday's match against United is also postponed, Liverpool will once more need to find a midweek time window.
After a decision regarding Sunday's match is made at midday, Liverpool will meet Manchester United at Anfield in the hopes of leading the league by eight points with one game remaining, assuming everything is okay. In the meanwhile, United is keeping an eye on them since Ruben Amorim has not ruled out a relegation fight.
