Mohamed Salah's contract at Anfield is coming to an end, and he is expected to depart Liverpool at the end of the current campaign. He has been offered a new contract by the Reds, but negotiations with his representation are still going on.  If a deal is not struck quickly, the 32-year-old may walk away from Anfield as a free agent this summer and sign a pre-contract agreement with overseas teams. Recently, he stated that he is "far away" from agreeing to a new contract.

With 17 goals this season, Salah, 32, leads the Premier League in scoring, but his future is still up in the air as he approaches the last six months of his lucrative contract. Salah made a list of his goals for the season while on vacation last year, and he is committed to doing "something special" by winning his second league title in May.

When Sky Sports asked Salah why he has more focused on winning the Premier League than the Champions League, Salah replied, "Probably coming back here, it's my last year at the club so you want to do something special for the city." 'We waited for that title for 30 years or so. So, to win it and it was the pandemic at that time, we didn't have time to celebrate it in the right way. It's not a nice thing to do, so hopefully we can do it this year."

Liverpool aim to retain their core players

Mohammed Salah has scored 231 goals since moving from Roma to Liverpool in 2016. The team won the Premier League the following year and the Champions League in 2019. It's not only the 32-year-old whose contract is about to expire. Additionally, Liverpool is managing contract expiration problems Virgil Van Dijk and Trent Alexander Arnold are nearing their contract end. With Real Madrid already targeting Trent Alexander Arnold.

Even if they are at the top of the league, the Merseyside team's next several seasons may depend on retaining the three players that make up its core. Liverpool leads the Premier League league by eight points at the start of 2025 after accumulating 45 points from their first 18 games. The next game for Slot's squad is against Manchester United on January 5.
