Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are recognized as all-time greats of the world's favorite game and ignite perpetual discussions among fans and experts. Their unparalleled dominance not only eclipses average fans but also garners opinions from some professional figures in world football. Football fans have made a definitive choice between the Argentine and Portuguese maestros.

Trent's Pick on who was his toughest opposition

Liverpool and England defender Trent Alexander-Arnold recently shared his thoughts on the matter. The 25-year-old, having encountered both Messi and Ronaldo on the field, offered valuable insights into their exceptional abilities.

Alexander-Arnold was questioned about his most challenging adversary during an exclusive interview with The Mirror. He promptly singled out Lionel Messi, expressing deep admiration for the former Barcelona and PSG maestro.

Alexander-Arnold had the opportunity to face Messi once, during Liverpool's historic Champions League semi-final comeback at Anfield, where he famously assisted Divock Origi.

"It has to be Messi for me, the best player I've played, for me the best player that's ever played the game," Alexander-Arnold said.

"I never watched Maradona. To imagine anyone better than what I've been able to see [from Messi], my brain doesn't comprehend it. There's no way anyone can be better than him."- he added.

Although their encounters were brief, it's clear that the Inter Miami star has made a lasting impression on the Liverpool vice-captain. Alexander-Arnold's strong outlook has sparked discussions on social media, with supporters and critics alike reflecting on his comments.

However, it's true to say Messi's aura and accolades are unmatched and Arnold's pick is self-explanatory.
