Enzo Fernandez offered no justification for the racial remarks he and his teammates said in the widely shared video. Enzo Fernandez, an Argentine midfielder, has apologised for the racial taunts he and his teammates directed at the France football team in their Copa America championship celebration.

Following Argentina's 1-0 victory against Colombia in the Copa America 2024 final on July 14 in Miami, a video from Enzo's Instagram Live went viral on social media. A song about France's players was performed by a few of the Argentina team in the video.

The Chelsea midfielder took to Instagram to issue the apology as he said, "I want to apologise sincerely for a video posted on my Instagram channel during the national team celebrations. The song included highly offensive language and there is absolutely no excuse for these words."

The Argentina midfielder added that he was truly apologetic as he said, "I stand against discrimination in all forms and apologise for getting caught up in the euphoria of our celebrations. That video, that moment, those words, do not reflect my beliefs or my character. I am truly sorry."

Will Enzo Fernandez face suspension after these controversial chants?

Enzo Fernandez might be in a lot of trouble from both his club and country as the video posted by him has caused a lot of outrage on social media. Some of his teammates at Chelsea have unfollowed him on all social media platforms. There is a high chance that the midfielder might have to serve a small suspension that the club might announce or if FIFA finds him guilty, a longer ban is kind of expected.

To add more fuel to the fire, The French Football Federation (FFF) has chosen to lodge a protest with FIFA, the world governing body, citing the presence of a purportedly "racist and discriminatory" cry in the viral video. FIFA have not replied back to the complaint and are expected to make a statement soon.
