Argentina won the Copa America 2024 by beating Colombia in the final. Lautaro Martinez scored the goal in the 112th minute of the match. Once the tournament ended, a crazy stat involving Manchester United and Argentina defender Lisandro Martinez came to light.

The 26-year-old ensured Argentina didn’t concede the goal whenever the center back was on the pitch. It is a huge stat as Lisandro Martinez was seen as a bedrock of the defense for his side. Even in the final, Argentina saw Lisandro Martinez play a key role in keeping the Colombian attackers at bay.

Lionel Messi was forced off the field due to injury and was happy at the final whistle. With this win Argentina not only easily defended their Copa America crown but also have a huge impetus ahead of the next FIFA World Cup in 2026 which is set to be held in the USA and Mexico.

Lautaro Martinez fires Argentina to glory

The Copa America 2024 final started more than an hour late which left the fans angry and frustrated. The match began with both sides starting in a sedate manner. There were numerous chances created from both sides.

One of the biggest moments of the game was when Lionel Messi went down when he was fouled. The veteran star was seen in tears as he made his way off the field and it was captured on live TV.

The game ended in a stalemate during regulation time as both sides were seen getting ready for the extra time. Argentina mounted pressure on the Colombian defences after a wave of attack.

After holding on for over 111 minutes, the tired and ragged Colombians finally cracked. Lautaro Martinez grabbed the best chance of the game and put Argentina ahead to break the hearts of many Colombian fans.

Colombia tried to stage a fightback but couldn’t do much as the Argentine defenders held their own. When the final whistle was blown the entire Argentine squad could be seen celebrating with jubilation. It was also a great send-off for winger Angel Di Maria who had announced his retirement from international football.
