Why is Amad Diallo not starting vs Liverpool today?

The current Premier League campaign has started unevenly for Erik ten Hag's Manchester United, who have won one and lost one thus far. Joshua Zirkzee gave Manchester United a 1-0 victory against Fulham at Old Trafford, but a late goal doomed the Red Devils to an embarrassing 2-1 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion inside the AMEX Stadium. 

Amad Diallo, the winger for United, was voted August's player of the month. It appeared that the Ivorian will now be the Red Devils' first choice at right wing. However, for the game against Liverpool, Erik ten Hag decided to bring in Alejandro Garnacho in place of him. It was a surprising call since Diallo has been a bright spark for the team in the opening two games of the English Premier League.

The Premier League season's maiden Player of the Month honour has been announced by Manchester United. Despite the uneven start to the season, there shouldn't be many grievances with the August player of the month selection. Ten Hag chose to give the former Atalanta attacker back-to-back games in the Premier League to Antony after he underperformed for the Red Devils during the preseason.

The youthful Ivorian striker has played in all three of United's games this season and has made some significant progress in 2024. The Ivorian cut inside and finished beautifully to give the Red Devils a 2-1 victory, but Amad's magnificent equalising goal against Brighton proved to be in vain.

This week, Manchester United suffered a serious setback when it was revealed that Mason Mount will miss several weeks of play due to a muscle injury. Manuel Ugarte, who joined from PSG on transfer deadline day is not in the matchday squad as he wasn’t registered in time for this game. Joshua Zirkzee starts for the first time in the Premier League this afternoon, joining Alejandro Garnacho along with Marcus Rashford in the United starting lineup.
