Pep Guardiola explains the reason for his celebration
Nunes clinched a crucial 2-1 victory for City at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night. He found the back of the net from a tight angle in the fourth minute of added time.
Guardiola’s celebration included fist pumps and a celebration in response to a goal that was scored minutes before the end of the match, preventing what might have been a disappointing draw in City’s already horrendous season.
“We’re not used to it. That belongs to Liverpool — how many times have they scored late under Jürgen (Klopp)? Arsenal under Mikel (Arteta) as well. I’m not used to it, so I’m happy,” Pep said.
“Football is emotion. The players, the fans —we’re all under pressure to qualify for the Champions League. The players’ behaviour was unbelievable. We’re very pleased to still be in the mix for a top-five finish,” Pep added.
Manchester City took early charge in the first half with a goal from Bernardo Silva. However, Aston Villa were quick to equalise with Marcus Rashford netting home the ball from the penalty spot conceded by Rubin Dias. Nunes came to the rescue of the citizens as he slotted in the winner in the 94th minute and helped City claim three important points.
"This season has been bad. But Aston Villa are a top side, among the best in Europe. We were aggressive, our back four were unbelievable, and the overall performance was really good. Football is about living with disappointment, but we did what we had to,” Pep said.
Pep Guardiola has made his goals known with regards to the current season. Amidst all the injury concerns and off-the-pitch controversies, Pep Guardiola and City are in pursuit of Champions League qualification next season.
