FC Barcelona has fired manager Xavi, and former Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick is expected to take over. Xavi will lead Barcelona for their final match on Sunday, as they visit Sevilla in their final La Liga encounter of the season.
Flick, who succeeded Joachim Low to be national manager in 2021, became the very first German manager to be fired since the position was established in 1926, winning only 12 of his 25 games in command. Flick's time with Germany came after he led Bayern Munich towards a treble in 2020, capturing the Bundesliga, DFB-Pokal, and Champions League.
Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, 35, spent two seasons under Flick while playing at Allianz Arena. Xavi led the team to the La Liga title and the Spanish Cup in his first full season in command, securing their return to the UEFA Champions League. Xavi won 89 of his 141 matches as Barcelona manager, giving him roughly 63% win ratio.
After leading Barcelona in winning the La Liga crown in 2022-23, Xavi's squad had a dismal defence of their title this season. With one game left in the season, Barcelona trail Real Madrid by 12 points. Paris St-Germain eliminated Barcelona in the Champions League quarter finals.
There are quite a few players that FC Barcelona might target after Hansi Flick takes over as the German has quite the reputation in the football world. Some of the names being rumoured to join FC Barcelona coincide with the plans of the manager. David Raum, Joshua Kimmich, Dani Olmo, Bernardo Silva, Leon Goretzka are some of the top players that have been linked with a move to the Spanish Giants in the last couple of days.
Kimmich and Raum are the most certain ones that might be on the target list of the Flick and FC Barcelona. But it remains to be seen whether the club has the financial condition to approve these major signings in the upcoming transfer window.
