Enzo Fernández made a voluntary donation to an anti-discrimination foundation, thus Chelsea will not take any action against him for a racist chant. Following his team's Copa América 2024 triumph this month, the 23-year-old shared a clip of himself and a few Argentina players singing a song disparaging French footballers of African descent.
It is believed that on Monday in Atlanta, where Chelsea is getting ready for a friendly against Club América of Mexico on Wednesday night, Fernández apologized in person to his teammates. It is believed that the apology was accepted.
Additionally, the player freely offered to donate what reports claimed was a "significant" sum to a nonprofit that fights and educates against discrimination. Although the recipient of the gift has not yet been determined, it is anticipated that the Chelsea Foundation would handle the donation. In addition, the team promised to match Fernández's donation to the organization.
As a result, the internal disciplinary procedure is over, and the playing team and club view the situation as resolved, according to sources. After apologizing on social media just over two weeks prior, Fernández has reportedly been in frequent communication with Chelsea players ever since. However, Monday was his first chance to make an in-person apology, which he took advantage of as soon as he arrived in the USA.
Reece James and Axel Disasi are rumored to have taken the primary roles in the playing squad's consultation process. Fernández also extended a collective apology to the group that included Wesley Fofana, the international player for France. Through a social media post, Fofana mentioned Fernández's video and called it "uninhibited racism."
Chelsea stated that the investigation will be conducted internally and declined to comment sooner on the situation. Fifa, the organization that oversees football worldwide, is currently looking into the situation and could punish Fernández. Enzo Maresca also believed earlier that it was about time the matter got solved.
