Zlatan Ibrahimovic expressed concerns about AC Milan's performance following their exit from the Champions League at the hands of Feyenoord. As a senior adviser for the club, he emphasized the need for improvement among the players, particularly after a devastating 2-1 aggregate defeat. Ibrahimovic also commented on the controversial red card issued to Theo Hernandez for diving during the 1-1 draw at San Siro, suggesting that the decisions and player performances played a crucial role in the outcome.
AC Milan appeared to gain early momentum in the match when Santiago Gimenez scored just inside the first minute on Tuesday, levelling the aggregate score at 1-1. However, the match took a turn in the 51st minute when Hernandez received a red card for diving. As the game progressed, Julian Carranza ultimately sealed Milan's fate with a crucial goal in the 73rd minute, leading his side to victory.
Zlatan backs Theo Hernandez but slams the team
Ibrahimovic asserted to Sky that Feyenoord was not superior to Milan; instead, Milan squandered their own chances. The management expressed palpable disappointment. The referee was excessively harsh on Theo Hernandez, issuing a red card without any prior warning. He believed Theo wasn't acting; he gave it his all on the pitch.
“Feyenoord were not better than us, we just killed ourselves,” Zlatan said.
“We are disappointed, the referee has been severe with Theo Hernández with no warning before the red card… Theo is not an actor, he does his best,” he told Sky.
AC Milan now shifts its attention back to Serie A, currently positioned seventh and in the running for European qualification for the next season. The team can still win silverware like Coppa Italia, having progressed into the semi-finals of the event.
