The Liverpool team were going towards their team bus after their impressive 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford. The home team supporters were salty about their side’s loss and took that frustration out on the Liverpool players. One of the star defenders of the team, Trent Alexander-Arnold, showed the middle finger to the supporters before he was stopped by fellow teammate Mohamed Salah.

This was meant to be a tough test for Slot, who had won both of his opening matches in command of Liverpool against Brentford and Ipswich. It wasn't Manchester United so obliging, that Casemiro's awful performance summed up their first-half miseries. After that, nothing improved, with the only silver lining being that they managed to escape a crushing defeat similar to their 7-0 victory at Anfield two seasons prior.

Liverpool run riot against Manchester United at Old Trafford

After Trent Alexander-Arnold's finish was disallowed by VAR, Liverpool believed they had scored early. Salah was offside as he touched Díaz's pull-back. Ryan Gravenberch's explosive midfield burst had set off the move, slicing apart United's defenders in the process and portending more to come.

The breakthrough, which was Slot's plan all along, came after a misdirected Casemiro ball and a lightning-fast Liverpool response. When Salah crossed the line after being found by the excellent Gravenberch, Liverpool pushed two men inside around the far post. Salah's cross reached Díaz, who headed home the opener.

Díaz stole the ball from Casemiro as he hesitated, and Liverpool was ahead once more. After working the ball towards Salah, they brought Díaz inside. It was a low, deadly finish, and there was no way Onana could salvage it. Following this, Ten Hag sent 20-year-old Toby Collyer down to warm himself up after the conclusion of the first half, replacing Casemiro for the second.

Mac Allister's deception of Kobbie Mainoo’s pass set up the third goal, and Liverpool was able to smell blood once more with United's defence lacking. Salah's goal was assisted by Szoboszlai, and the visitors may have scored two more goals right away, leaving United looking exposed as they usually do after giving up.
