Atletico Madrid vs Thibaut Courtois

On Sunday night, when Real Madrid took the lead during the derby thanks to a goal from Eder Militao, Thibaut Courtois celebrated in front of thousands of Atletico Madrid fans. It did not sit well with the home team fans at all and might have enraged the goalkeeper to a certain extent as well.

A video has now emerged of Thibaut Courtois rattling the Atletico Madrid fans by showing them the number of UEFA Champions League titles he has won. The former Chelsea shot stopper also signalled that Atletico Madrid have zero to their name.

Shortly thereafter, the Belgian custodian was assaulted with objects coming from behind the goal, leading the game to be delayed. Atletico has since identified and blacklisted the fan responsible for the incident. It is common for players to face mistreatment in stadiums, particularly when they are not at home. However, even if players are turning around to jeer at fans of the opposing side, throwing objects at them is never appropriate.

“The club has made the decision to permanently…” : Atletico Madrid

A statement from Atletico Madrid read, "The club has made the decision to permanently expel the person identified yesterday by the police, in collaboration with our security department, involved in the throwing of objects during the derby. Our security department continues to work with the police to identify the rest of those involved in the throwing of objects, who will be permanently expelled as soon as they are identified."

Atletico Madrid has stated that they will keep assisting the authorities in their efforts to find any further supporters who may have been engaged in the disturbances. Courtois has now sustained an injury that may prevent him from playing in Real Madrid's UEFA Champions League encounter against LOSC Lille this week, adding salt to injury.

Courtois should be ready on schedule for El Clasico, according to club insiders, who state that he will miss ideally his next two games due to this ailment. This ailment clearly affected Courtois towards the end of the Derby, so we cannot help but wonder if it hindered his ability to stop Atletico's late equalizer.
