Son's first trophy came after a series of heartbreaks he endured throughout his career. Son finished as runners-up in the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Carabao Cup in 2021. His national team also lost in the semifinals of the AFC Asian Cup 2022. Earlier, the South Korean star refused to accept himself as a Tottenham legend since he didn't bring any silverware to the club. Having led the club to its first European title since 1984, Son finally called himself a club legend.
"Let's say I'm a legend. Why not? Only today! Seventeen years, nobody has done it, so with such amazing players, yeah, today's the day. Probably today I will say I'm a legend of this club," Son said.
"I feel amazing. This is what I've always dreamed for and today is the day it happened. Dream came really, really true. I'm so so happy. I am the happiest man in the world," he added.
