Serbia secured a 1-1 draw on Thursday, denying Slovenia its first-ever victory at a European Championship due to a late goal. Before Luka Jović, a substitute, tied the score deep into stoppage time, Žan Karničnik's goal in the 69th minute had placed Slovenia on the verge of a historic victory. The Serbian supporters were ecstatic after the goal, but they also threw flares and other items onto the pitch.

The players restarted, and the referee called full time right away, so the equaliser was essentially the last play. The Slovenian players lost heart and fell to the ground. Tuesday's last group game pits Slovenia—which drew with Denmark during its opening match—against England, while Serbia plays Denmark. Serbia's first game ended in a 1-0 loss to England.

After Zan Karnicnik's goal in the 69th minute placed Slovenia on the verge of a historic victory, Luka Jovic, a replacement, tied the score with a header deep into stoppage time to save Serbia's blushes.

Serbia look to withdraw from the ongoing UEFA Euro 2024

Football authorities from Serbia allegedly took offence at fan shouts during the Albania-Croatia match, so much so that they threatened to withdraw from the UEFA Euro 2024. In Hamburg, the game concluded 2-2 on Wednesday. Serbia's second group game against Slovenia got underway in Munich on Thursday afternoon.

UEFA has not yet responded to this occurrence. The Balkan wars of the 1990s are the source of the hostility that exists between supporters of the Albanian and Croatian teams against the Serbs.

Serbian supporters are well-known for their anti-Albanian and anti-Croatian chants, racist yells, and outspoken backing of war criminals who have been found guilty of killing tens of thousands of people during the violent dissolution of the old Yugoslavia. Following their opening group stage matches, UEFA fined the Serbian and Albanian federations 10,000 euros ($10,700) apiece for having supporters fly banners with nationalist maps.
