Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, and Ruud van Nistelrooy, his assistant manager, were seen bickering during the team's poor performance yesterday, as they were only able to draw 0-0 away against Aston Villa.

Over the past week or so, the Red Devils endured something of a nightmare: they lost 3-0 at home against Tottenham, drew 3-3 away to Porto, giving up a 2-0 advantage, and yesterday, played a boring tie at Villa Park.

As a result, Manchester United has lost the past five matches across all competitions and has only triumphed in two of their previous nine games overall. With eight points, they are off to their worst league season start in thirty-five years.

Given that Ten Hag as well as Ruud Van Nistelrooy are obviously at odds about something, it may not come as a huge surprise that the club doesn't appear to be in a particularly pleasant place at the moment. Van Nistelrooy became a member of United's coaching team this summer, but it's safe to say that the many adjustments made at Old Trafford haven't yet produced the intended results.

Will Erik ten Hag continue as Manchester United head coach?

Erik Ten Hag, who was fortunate to remain United's manager this summer following such a dismal season the previous one, will now be the center of attention, even though he mostly covered up some fractures by defeating rivals Manchester City during the FA Cup final. His time at the helm of Manchester United might be running out quickly and if he wants to continue, he might have to string a few results.

However, the United board seems like they made an error to keep Ten Hag while they did so, and it’s obviously just a matter of weeks before another manager steps in after this dreadful start to the campaign. Van Nistelrooy, a former United striker who made an impression during his time as PSV Eindhoven's manager, may potentially be a possibility to succeed Ten Hag.
