“My story as a player ends here but I still have much to give to football,” Marcelo said in the video.

"Now, I can proudly say that I am a true Madrileno. Here, alongside my wife, I have built a family. 16 seasons, 25 titles, five Champions Leagues, one of the captains and so many magical nights at the Bernabeu. What a journey! My journey as a player ends here, but I still have so much to give to football. Thank you for everything," he added.

The tale of Marcelo's glorious career

Marcelo embarked on his football journey in 2005, where he first made a name for himself by securing the Campeonato Carioca. This success paved the way for a historical move to Real Madrid, where he became an integral part of the team, contributing to a plethora of accolades during his tenure.

After a brief period with Greek side Olympiacos, Marcelo returned to Brazil, where he continued to excel by winning both the Copa Libertadores and the Recopa Sudamericana with Fluminense.

In the 2021-22 season, he took on the captain's armband, making history as the first non-Spaniard to lead the club since 1904. Under his leadership, Los Blancos clinched another Champions League title, bringing a triumphant conclusion to his tenure.

Marcelo’s return to Fluminense was nothing short of historic, as he played a pivotal role in securing the Copa Libertadores title in 2023, further enhancing his already outstanding legacy. However, his second stint with the club ended controversially in November 2024, after a fierce dispute with head coach Mano Menezes during a contentious match against Gremio.

With his playing career now behind him, Marcelo's next steps are poised to take shape. His assertion that he has much to contribute to football clearly indicates that a transition into coaching or club management is imminent.
