English footballer Raheem Sterling is said to have undergone baptism into the Christian faith. A video, circulating on social media depicts the 29-year-old publicly professing his commitment to Christ in the presence of fellow members of his church congregation.

The footballer, who recently finalized his loan move to Arsenal from Chelsea for the 2024-25 season, revealed that he embraced Christianity after recognizing that he had been distracted by fame and luxury, leading him to pursue the wrong priorities. He conveyed his personal journey to those in attendance and expressed that since a young age, his ambition had been to attain financial security to support his family.

Sterling's confession to the congregation

"I’ve always had a dream to get my mum and my family out of a certain predicament, and I always chased that dream. But along the line, like anything you’re creating habits, you’re creating an ego, chasing what I believe I wanted, which is not really what I wanted," Sterling confessed.

“As I’m growing, I’m maturing. I could see that I was chasing my ego. I saw I was chasing what was not for me. I was going into different environments, shoots, I was going to certain places and doing certain things and I’m coming to the realisation that I don’t believe this is what I want. I don’t believe this is who I truly am," Sterling added.

Sterling's sons, Thiago and Thai, reportedly attended the service in Jamaica, Sterling's birthplace.

A video captured Sterling, dressed in a white t-shirt and trousers, immersing himself in a tank of water and proclaiming, "I vow Oh Lord, I offer me until death." Following the immersion, a gospel choir performed "Goodbye World," and Sterling was wrapped in a white towel.

Earlier this year, Sterling discussed his faith, citing his mother's influence from her frequent prayers at home. Social media has reacted positively to his baptism.
