Following taunts directed at him toward the end of Sunday's 2-0 loss at Anfield, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola reminded Liverpool supporters of his six Premier League victories in his previous seven seasons. As a result, City's fairly spectacular collapse continues, as they have lost their last four league games and have not won seven games in all competitions.

Following Manchester City's sixth loss in seven games, dropping them 11 points behind Liverpool at the top of the league, Guardiola was greeted with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" from the home crowd.Meanwhile Pep Guardiola claimed that hearing the chant at Anfield was unexpected."I didn't expect that at Anfield. I didn't expect it from the people from Liverpool but it's fine," added Guardiola. "It's part of the game, and I understand completely. We've had incredible battles together. I have a respect for them."

Following the defeat, City dropped to the bottom of the standings, 11 points below Liverpool. The 2-0 loss came immediately following the run. Mohamed Salah scored on a penalty kick in the 78th minute, following a goal by Cody Gakpo in the 12th. However, with Liverpool having many easy opportunities, it might have been lot worse for City.

The 53-year-old recently signed a contract extension with Manchester City which will last until 2027, but he has stated that he would not remain too long if things do not improve. However, Guardiola was unable to contain his anger and responded by flashing six fingers, one for each trophy he had won.

Two of instances occurred in 2018–19 and 2021–2022, when they were able to deny Liverpool a point. The loss extended Guardiola's dismal record at Anfield. City has lost six of their ten meetings under Pep Guardiola, while their lone victory was behind closed doors in 2021 as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.
