'Stay humble eh' - Fans react as Manchester City remains winless in seven games

On Sunday, December 1, Liverpool defeated Manchester City at Anfield, with goals from Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo. This resulted in City losing for the sixth time in a row, extending their winless streak to seven games. As the Reds dominated Guardiola's team, they would increase their advantage over City to 11 points.

Liverpool had City on the ropes from the first minute and could have easily scored three or four goals thanks to Arne Slot's team's constant pressure. One of the highlights was when Luis Diaz sent Cody Gakpo off with a brilliant pirouette in the fourth minute. Ortega managed to make a fantastic stop, but by then the flag had been raised for offside.

Ortega was called into action again after Manuel Akanji's careless play in the build-up to the move blocked Szoboszlai's feeble attempt. The goal from Virgil van Dijk bounced against the woodwork in the 12th minute, and City would have to thank the post. But the respite was short-lived because Cody Gakpo would subsequently bundle the ball home after Mohamed Salah had sent in a beautiful assist. 

When City fought to stay in the game, Virgil Van Dijk had another fantastic opportunity from a different corner in the 19th minute. Liverpool threatened to abandon the match shortly after, giving Gakpo an opportunity. Liverpool continued to control the game, while City managed to gain ground gradually.

In the 56th minute, Salah ran towards Ortega after Bernardo Silva's mishandled ball, giving Liverpool their best opportunity to double the lead. But the Egyptian's shot went over well. The hosts would attack constantly despite City's best efforts to put pressure on goal. Salah and Alexander-Arnold nearly made it 2-0 with one such play, but an offside flag was raised.

Kevin De Bruyne nearly cut the gap with a mistake from Van Dijk, but Kelleher was there to make a wonderful save. Overtaking Arsenal and Chelsea, Liverpool would increase their lead at the top of the table to nine points. Guardiola would have to reorganize his team since City will play Nottingham Forest at home on December 4 and Liverpool will play Newcastle United away from home.
