After James Rodríguez misplayed a ball back, Nicolás González raced towards his opponent's goal, outmuscled Yerson Mosquera, and went one-on-one with the goalie to equalize for the visitors with the left foot. Colombia took the lead later in the second half, Nicolás Otamendi caught Daniel Muñoz when he slid to steal the ball from him, and Daniel disputed the blow.

Piero Maza, the referee, went to the VAR to check it. Emiliano Martínez ducked to the other side as James Rodríguez crossed a left-footed shot towards the left-hand side of the Argentina goal. Earlier on, James Rodriguez misplayed the corner to Jhon Arias, who gave it back to him to tap in at the far post. With no one else around, Yerson Mosquera headed the ball in alone to make it 1-0 in the first half.

No Lionel Messi for Argentina during current International Break

The Argentina team that plays Colombia in the FIFA World Cup 2026 CONMEBOL qualifiers on Tuesday at the Estadio Metropolitano Roberto Meléndez in Barranquilla does not include Lionel Messi.

The 37-year-old was left off of the 28-man roster that manager Lionel Scaloni revealed last month for the qualification matches against Colombia and Chile. Since suffering an injury on July 14 after playing for Argentina in their 1-0 Copa America final victory over Colombia, Messi has not made an appearance for either club or country.

He has made a restricted comeback to practise at Inter Miami, where he plays Major League Soccer, while he recovers. Messi returned to training, but Inter Miami manager Tata Martino informed The Athletic that he still lacks the necessary medical permission to play. Martino stated that Messi's return to action is still planned for sometime before Inter Miami's regular season ends on October 19 against the New England Revolution.
