WATCH : Marcus Rashford misses big chance during FA Community shield

Marcus Rashford, the attacker for Manchester United missed a glorious chance to open the scoring during the FA Community Shield against Manchester City today at Wembley. Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford combined well to break down the opposition defence and midfield. 

There was another chance where Casemiro and Amad Diallo combined well but the latter chose to cross instead of shooting at the goal which meant that the Red Devils couldn’t open the scoring that time. Diallo has looked good so far in the first 55 minutes but was replaced by Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho. 

Both the teams have created plenty of chances in the opening hour of the game but have not been clinical enough to break the deadlock so far. If the game remains scoreless after the ninety minutes, there will be no extra-time and penalties would decide the fate of this tie.

Manchester City out to beat an unwanted record this year?

Manchester City is participating during the FA Community Shield for the fourth year running, despite not taking home the silverware in any of the three previous years—2021, 2022, or 2023. The only team to miss out on winning the Community Shield for four straight years is Manchester United (1998–2001).

Ten Hag stated that the previous season might have gone differently if injuries hadn't interfered with the campaign, however injuries are yet again a threat to spoil United's season opener. Following foot surgery, Yoro will be out for three months, and Rasmus Hojlund of Denmark will miss the first six weeks of the campaign due to a hamstring injury. 

Joshua Zirkzee, a striker from Bologna and the Netherlands, has also joined Manchester United in a £36.54 million move. The striker is expected to make his debut in the game today but it will depend whether Erik Ten Hag feels he is ready or not.
