WATCH: Manchester United chief confirms Ruben Amorim as next manager

Erik ten Hag parted ways with Manchester United following a challenging match against West Ham United, where the team faced a 2-1 defeat, as announced by the club on Monday. Despite having his contract extended in the summer, Ten Hag  faced difficulties at the start of the new season, achieving four wins in 13 games.

As sources indicate, the decision to transition from Ten Hag was influenced by concerns within the club regarding a turnaround in performance after a tough beginning. With the team earning only 11 points from their first nine league matches, there are growing worries about their prospects for qualifying for the next season's UEFA Champions League.

The assessment of results and performances in the Premier League at the conclusion of last season played a vital role in the decision. Manchester United, after finishing eighth last season, is currently positioned 14th in the table following a recent defeat at the London Stadium.

In the development, Ruben Amorim is in line to become the next manager of Manchester United, as confirmed by the club's chief.

Discussions between United and Sporting Lisbon have progressed rapidly, with reports suggesting that the release clause has been activated. This could lead to Amorim's appointment just in time for him to take the helm for Sunday’s Premier League match against Chelsea.

Having dedicated his entire coaching career to clubs in Portugal, including Casa Pia, Braga, and Sporting, Amorim has gained valuable experience. Although he has had limited opportunities to face English teams, his exposure to European competition has provided a meaningful avenue for growth and development in his managerial journey.

Sporting CP has amassed 9 wins in 9 matches in the current season of Liga Portugal and sits at the top of the standings.
