Lionel Messi demonstrated an incredible resilience in below-freezing temperatures, scoring the decisive goal for Inter Miami during the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions Cup against Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday. According to a report by Sports Illustrated, this match may set a record for being the coldest football game ever played.
The much-anticipated clash, initially set for Tuesday, was postponed by a full 24 hours because of an arctic storm that engulfed the region in snow and sent temperatures crashing. When the game finally commenced at Children’s Mercy Park, players from both teams donned gloves, neck warmers, and full-length leggings to effectively combat the brutal icy conditions.

Messi scored his 851st career goal
Despite the challenging weather conditions, Messi showed his exceptional dribbling skills in the 56th minute. He skillfully manoeuvred past defenders and executed a low, precise shot that successfully found the back of the net. This marked his 851st career goal for the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner as he continues to chase his eternal rival, five-time Ballon d'or winner Cristiano Ronaldo who has racked up 923 goals to his name.
