Real Madrid fans got a good reason to cheer for the Galacticos as Kylian Mbappe showcased his class with a remarkable hat-trick, leading Los Blancos to a 3-1 victory over Manchester City on February 20. This win not only secured their place in the Champions League Round of 16 but also served as a warning to the teams who will face them next. Real Madrid defeated Manchester City 6-3 by aggregate score over both legs.
Kylian Mbappe, who had aspirations of donning the iconic white jersey, has finally made his mark since joining the team. His outstanding display against Pep Guardiola’s City marks a turning point in his season, bringing his total to 28 goals across all competitions.
The French star's growing stature at the club has garnered attention and praise from everyone including Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Mbappe stamped his authority right from the start, scoring the opening goal in just the fourth minute, which set a positive tone for the team. He scored again in the 33rd minute, taking advantage of defensive mistakes from City to extend the lead. Completing his hat-trick in the second half in the 66th minute, he continued to threaten City's defence. Although new signing Nico González managed to score for Guardiola’s side in stoppage time it was not enough to alter the outcome of the match.
Carlo Ancelotti's bold prediction about Kylian Mbappe
In a post-match statement, Ancelotti praised Mbappe's exceptional talent and made a daring prediction. If the 25-year-old maintains his peak performance, he will undoubtedly rise to the legendary status of Cristiano Ronaldo at the club. This comparison carries significant weight, as Ronaldo stands as Real Madrid’s all-time leading goalscorer with an impressive 451 goals in 438 appearances.
“Everyone was waiting for this hat-trick from him and it has finally arrived," Ancelotti said.
"He has the quality to reach the level of Cristiano [Ronaldo]. He has to work. Cristiano set the bar very high. He's started his career at this club now. I think with his quality, and the excitement he has about playing here, he can reach Cristiano's level, but it won't be easy. He'll have to work at it," he added.
Ancelotti firmly believes that Mbappe possesses all the abilities to establish his own era Santiago Bernabéu. With his blistering pace, precise finishing, and fearless mentality in crucial matches, Mbappe has already proven why he was the Galacticos signing in the first place.
