Lionel Messi picked his favourite goal
Lionel Messi picked his favourite goal in his professional career so far, and it's not the strike anyone expected. His favourite goal doesn't involve his alien-like dribbling or shooting skills, instead, it is a header. The little man from Rosario selected the loopy header from the final of the UEFA Champions League 2009 as his personal favourite.
The goal came in the 70th minute in Rome for the Catalans and it proved to be the final nail in the coffin for the hopes of the Red Devils. Barcelona went on to win the UEFA Champions League finals 2-0. Messi described the reason for selecting the header as his favourite. He stated:-
"Because of the moment it happened, because of what it meant, because it crowned an unforgettable year for me, it's the most meaningful goal of all."
A 37-year-old player identified his favorite goal in collaboration with Inter Miami's IMCF Foundation. The foundation has commissioned award-winning visual artist Refik Anadol to create a piece of art based on the goal as part of a charitable initiative.
Lionel Messi will lead his club in the revamped FIFA Club World Cup. The much anticipated event is set to get underway in June 2025.
