During Sunday's Premier League encounter involving Arsenal and Manchester City inside the Etihad Stadium in Manchester, Leandro Trossard was given the red card for booting the ball away. After Bernardo Silva of Manchester City was brought down in the midfield shortly before halftime, Trossard booted the ball out, which Michael Oliver, the referee, deemed inappropriate.

After receiving a second yellow card, the Belgian, who had already received one, was forced to exit the pitch. The manager, Mikel Arteta, was seen hiding his head underneath his jumper in astonishment as the decision left the entire Arsenal team looking genuinely shocked.

With two late goals from Riccardo Calafiori and Gabriel Magalhaes, Arsenal leads the match 2-1. The Gunners were additionally outraged by red card judgements made earlier in the season. Arteta was angry when Declan Rice was handed marching orders versus Brighton & Hove Albion for stalling the restart.

Jamie Carragher, the former star of Liverpool, was incensed at Trossard and his teammates at Arsenal, who contested the call and tried to convince referee Michael Oliver to reverse it. Carragher, though, insisted that it was an obvious farewell.

The former Liverpool defender said, "Arteta has put his jumper over his head. I don't think he can complain. It's a foul. He barges Bernardo Silva and then he wellies the ball away. The reason we know he's heard the whistle is he half pulls away."

Mikel Arteta on poor decisions from referees in Premier League

Mikel Arteta, the Arsenal manager spoke to the reporters after the game against Brighton & Hove Albion. He said, “I was amazed. Amazed, amazed, amazed because of how inconsistent decisions can be. In the first half, there are two incidents and nothing happens. Then, in a non-critical area, the ball hits Declan (on the back of his leg), he turns around, he doesn’t see the player coming and he touches the ball.

The former Everton playmaker said, “By law, he [the referee] can make that call, but then by law he needs to make the next call, which is red card so we play 10 vs 10. This is what amazed me. At this level it’s amazing,”
