Jose Mourinho made a funny comment about former Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma about a past incident involving animal welfare while expressing his fondness for dogs. In early 2022, a video emerged showing Zouma in an unfortunate situation where he was seen mistreating his pet cat. This video, shared by his brother Yoan on Snapchat, sparked significant controversy about animal welfare.
Following a thorough investigation, Zouma took responsibility for his actions and was sentenced in May 2022. The court mandated 180 hours of community service and placed a five-year ban on him owning cats.
Zouma faced consequences for his actions beyond legal penalties. He was fined two weeks' wages by West Ham United, this was the maximum punishment the club could enforce. Additionally, he lost his sponsorship deal with Adidas, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals took custody of his two cats. During the hearing, District Judge Susan Holdham explicitly condemned his behaviour.

Mourinho, known for his outspoken nature didn't shy from controversy and made a pointed remark referencing Zouma’s notorious cat abuse incident. In a recent interview with former Chelsea star John Obi-Mikel, the Fenerbahce head coach was asked whether he preferred dogs or cats. His response was both straightforward and humorous; he expressed a preference for dogs but added that he has no issues with cats since he’s not Kurt Zouma. “Dogs. But I don’t have any problems with cats. I’m not Kurt Zouma,” Jose said.

Zouma, who joined Mourinho's squad as a promising 19-year-old from Saint-Etienne in 2014, has previously reflected on the coach's demanding style. He shared an anecdote about a conversation where Mourinho provided him with stern feedback following a disappointing performance.
Mourinho, known for his success in European competitions, is now focused on leading Fenerbahce to the Europa League round of 16, aiming to achieve this against Anderlecht in their upcoming matchup.
