Watch: James Maddison draws first blood against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur lead 1-0

The Premier League returned this weekend with an important matchup as Tottenham Hotspur faced Ruben Amorim's Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. 

Both teams were looking to gain momentum in the league, with Manchester United sitting in 13th place and eager to improve their performance this season. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur sat in 14th place, also seeking to turn their fortunes around after a difficult year.

James Maddison draws first blood for Tottenham Hotspurs against Manchester United 

Manchester United had shown a degree of improvement under Ruben Amorim, although there remains some work to be accomplished in the upcoming weeks. Tottenham Hotspur have struggled to maintain their form this season and have underperformed in the past month.

The hosts were off to a great start. Tottenham Hotspurs displayed great dominance. Son Heung Min's initial shot was expertly blocked by Mazraoui, but the ball landed at Bergvall's feet. He unleashed a powerful strike that forced Onana into a desperate save. The United goalkeeper can only parry it away, and Maddison is right on the spot to capitalize, nudging the ball home and putting the hosts firmly ahead with a 1-0 lead in the 13th minute.

The hosts held onto their lead in the first half and denied the Red Devils any scoring opportunities. Tottenham Hotspurs lead 1-0 against the Red Devils.

Tottenham Spurs had shown strong performances so far and could have certainly been ahead by more goals. It's a situation that must be frustrating for Amorim on the touchline as his team continue to crumble under pressure. Manchester United fans ought to hope for a good response from their side in the second half.
