Girona's first La Liga victory of the season came earlier today with goals by Bryan Gil, Abel Ruiz, Cristhian Stuani and Viktor Tsygankov,  in a convincing 4-0 victory over Osasuna. Tsygankov scored the second goal and celebrated with a lightsaber. The Ukrainian seems to be a huge Star Wars fanatic as the object is primarily used in that series of movies.

Girona, the surprise gift of the previous season, took the lead during the 34th minute thanks to an incredible volley from Gil, and Tsygankov increased the lead during the 53rd minute through a drive from inside the penalty area. The home team won easily after three minutes when Ruiz netted the third goal with an incredible shot towards the top corner while substitute Stuani added the fourth goal in additional time. Girona, with four points after three games, rose to seventh place in the La Liga rankings.

Girona find out about their UEFA Champions League opponents

Now, the 2024–25 UEFA Champions League is where the real work gets started. The league phase draw, which was introduced this season, was held by UEFA on Thursday. Girona, who are participating in this tournament for the first time, was one of the teams that received their opponent information for games that will take place in September through January.

Girona's draw opponents are Feyenoord (home) and PSV Eindhoven (away); Liverpool (home) and Paris Saint-Germain (away) from Pot 1; Arsenal (home) and AC Milan (away) from Pot 2; and Slovan Bratislava (home) and Sturm Graz (away) from Pot 4.

It is clear to say that Girona will not have an easy time participating in the Champions League for the first time. Although it will be very difficult to face four European heavyweights, Michel Sanchez will be confident that his team can upset some features.

The games at Montilivi versus Liverpool and Arsenal will undoubtedly be quite memorable. Girona will be looking to enjoy this experience regardless of the outcome, and if they are capable of pulling off an unusual result, they have a good chance of finishing in the top 24. In the coming days, the fixture order will be decided.
