Mendes hit a fantastic shot in the latter moments of the game, but Paulo Gazzanigga was unable to save it as it went through his legs. Girona's UEFA Champions League debut encounter came to an end, but PSG prevailed by a narrow margin in the final minutes despite the fierce attack. With a win over Girona, Paris Saint-Germain began their UEFA Champions League campaign. 

The match against Girona took place today at the Parc des Princes. Last season, Girona performed admirably in La Liga, placing third in the premier division of Spain. They were now hoping to upset PSG in their Champions League opening match on Thursday in order to take the competition by storm. However, their resistance got over by that unintentional error by the former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper.
